In 1993, national treasure Himeji Castle was designated as the first Japanese World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. As its gracious coalition architectural style resembles a flying white heron, the castle is also known as “Shirasagi-jo (White Heron Castle)”. It is also famous as a location for Japanese samurai movies and dramas.
Located right next to Himeji Castle, Koko-en is composed of nine unique gardens, where the Lord’s residence was once situated. The quaint charm of the samurai house blends well with the scenic gardens, creating an impressive atmosphere.
